Samos Volunteers (SV) is a volunteer non-governmental organisation providing non-formal education, psycho-social support and NFI distribution to people living in the CCAC on Samos.The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for our volunteers stay with the organisation. We typically have a team of 20 - 30 volunteers, made up of external volunteers (who travel to Samos specifically to support us) and community volunteers (who are currently going through the asylum process on the island).The Volunteer Coordinator takes responsibility for the management of all volunteers, including general well-being and making sure that the organisation’s working values are understood and upheld. Volunteer recruitment, outreach and scheduling are core parts of this role.Start date: 6th April 2026Location: Samos, GreeceMinimum commitment: 6 months minimum, full-timeApplication deadline: 15th March 2026Applications will be assessed on a rolling basis.Key responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:1. Volunteer Recruitment and Outreach* Publish volunteer calls on relevant platforms and Samos Volunteers’ social media channels in coordination with the Communications & Advocacy Coordinator; * Manage the full recruitment process, including screening, interviewing, and selecting external volunteers; * Ensure the volunteer team size is adequate to cover all organisational activities; * Actively recruit and reach out to community volunteers; * Strive to build and maintain a diverse and inclusive volunteer team; * Liaise with partner organisations supporting placements (e.g. universities, collectives, and other NGOs on the island).2. Onboarding, Training, and Volunteer Support* Conduct inductions for external, local, and community volunteers; * Provide ongoing training, guidance, and support throughout volunteers’ engagement with Samos Volunteers; * Monitor volunteer wellbeing through formal and informal check-ins; * Organise monthly check-ins and leaving chats with volunteers; * Send follow-up communications after volunteers complete their placement; * Facilitate a monthly sharing space for external and community volunteers; * Recruit and coordinate an external facilitator to lead monthly sharing sessions; * Support volunteers in fostering positive and professional working relationships; * Act as a focal point for volunteers and address concerns as they arise; * Address breaches of the Code of Conduct as part of the People Committee.3. Community-Based Approach* Ensure the implementation of Samos Volunteers’ community-based approach from a volunteer perspective; * Promote meaningful participation of community volunteers in the design, implementation, and evaluation of services, in coordination with respective programme leads.4. Scheduling and Operational Coordination* Organise and publish the weekly volunteer schedule; * Liaise with programme coordinators to define volunteer roles and responsibilities; * Manage housing allocation within Samos Volunteers’ shared houses; * Oversee procurement of vouchers, phone top-ups, and bus tickets for community volunteers.5. Volunteer Administration* Update the Volunteer Handbook and application process as needed; * Update House and Car Agreements when necessary; * Maintain and revise training materials, induction content, and other information shared in the recruitment process as required.6. Administrative and Field Coordination* Monitor and evaluate activities related to volunteers on a monthly basis; * Provide operational support to the coordination team as needed; * Cover shifts in the community centre when required, supervise and manage our spaces; * Report to and collaborate closely with the Project Manager.Key Requirements* Minimum availability of 6 months and legal right to reside in Greece without visa sponsorship; * Previous experience of managing, coordinating or coaching a group of volunteers and/or working with vulnerable communities, ideally in the refugee context in Greece; * Strong organisational and volunteer management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple priorities effectively; * Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders and express ideas clearly in both written and spoken form; * Solid understanding of the complexities and ethical challenges of humanitarian work, ideally with experience in a similar organisation or environment; * Strong cultural sensitivity and experience engaging with displaced communities; * Strong leadership, decision-making, and conflict resolution skills; * Fluency in written and spoken English.; * High level of adaptability and resilience in fast-changing environments.Desirable skills, knowledge, experience* Greek, Arabic, Farsi, Dari, Tigrayan, Somali, Amharic, Turkish or French is an asset. * Good understanding of the asylum process in Greece; * Awareness of the cultural diversity of the camp community. * Driving licenseEqual Opportunities:All applications will receive equal treatment regardless of the applicant's sex, ethnic or national origin, race, gender, disability, age, sexual orientation, socio-economic background, religious or political beliefs, marital status or family circumstances. A private room in one of our shared houses is also provided.All team members are entitled to 1 week of leave for every 2 months of work.
