Humanitarian crises are increasingly unpredictable, often requiring rapid deployment across multiple regions. In response, LWF is adopting a more efficient and scalable approach to global emergency support through the launch of a global Roving Emergency Coordinator.For additional information, please see https://worldservice.lutheranworld.org/PurposeThe REC provides on-demand technical and operational support to LWF Country Programs across the global portfolio. The role focuses on strengthening humanitarian preparedness and response capacity through technical advice, training, surge deployment during acute emergencies, and capacity strengthening of the LWF Internal Emergency Roster. The position contributes to ensuring consistent application of humanitarian standards and timely, high-quality support to country teams.Required qualificationsUniversity degree in a relevant field of emergency response and development assistance, political science, and social science.Knowledge and ExperienceAt least 10 years of professional experience in humanitarian emergency response in field settings.Strong understanding of humanitarian principles, CHS commitments, and sector standards.Demonstrated ability to support capacity strengthening and deliver training.Experience in rapid assessments, proposal development, and emergency project implementation.Technical experience in EiE or WASH is an advantage.Experience working with UN clusters, inter-agency mechanisms, and NGO coordination platforms.Strong adaptability, flexibility and stress resilience.Language SkillsAdvanced English and at least one of the following languages: French, Spanish, Arabic.LWF Core SkillsLeadership – advanced level*Working effectively with others – resource levelAccountability – advanced levelAnalytical thinking – resource levelInitiative – resource levelAchieving results – resource levelLWF Functional SkillsPeople Management – advanced levelFacilitation / Negotiation – resource levelProject Management - resource levelNetworking - resource levelCommunication - resource level*LWF 3 skills levels are: basis - advanced – resourceMain dutiesSurge support to Country Programs during L3 Emergencies or massive spikes in protracted crisesDeploy at short notice to support country programs during acute emergencies.Conduct or support rapid needs assessments in coordination with country teams and humanitarian partners.Provide hands-on operational and technical support to scale up emergency interventions.If needed, support the preparation of emergency appeals, proposals, and donor submissions.Offer remote support when not deployed.Technical Support and Capacity StrengtheningProvide technical guidance to country programs on humanitarian response design, implementation, and quality assurance.Deliver training on emergency preparedness, DRR, and humanitarian standards (CHS, Sphere, Do-No-Harm, LWF Code of Conduct, etc.).Strengthen country-level humanitarian response mechanisms, including preparations of Emergency Preparedness and Response Plans, support in establishing Humanitarian Response Teams and ensuring CPs have more agile policies and procedures for emergencies.Provide technical support across sectors relevant to LWF programs; expertise in EiE and WASH is an advantage.Preparedness and Country SupportSupport country programs in preparedness planning, including scenario planning and risk monitoring.Support country programs in developing updated analysis of evolving humanitarian contexts affecting LWF operations.Whenever possible, support member churches to strengthen their preparedness and response capacities.Assist country teams in identifying capacity gaps and facilitate relevant training or support.Emergency Roster ManagementSupport GHC in onboarding roster membersSupport in the development of a generic Terms of Reference for roster deployment.Support GHC in coordinating deployments in collaboration with country programs.Coordination, Representation, and NetworkingLiaise with other INGOs, UN agencies, ACT Alliance partners, and relevant coordination structures during deployments.Represent LWF World Service in humanitarian coordination meetings when requested.Support effective information sharing and learning across country programs and the Global Humanitarian Team.HOW TO APPLYFor applying, please click on following link: https://lutheranworld.hire.trakstar.com/jobs/fk0z33k?cjb_hash=O_BHAs65&apply_now=true
