IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all.International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) recently assumed joint leadership of the new Global Shelter, Land and Site Coordination (SLSC) Cluster, an integrated platform that brings together shelter assistance, site coordination, and housing, land and property (HLP) support. This new structure aims to deliver faster, fairer, and more effective humanitarian responses, placing people and their communities at the centre of coordination efforts.Within this strengthened coordination model, Information Management (IM) is critical for ensuring timely, accurate and operationally relevant data to support decision‑making. The IM Intern will contribute to this effort by helping develop digital tools, manage data systems, and produce analysis that improves coordination and supports field operations.SupervisionUnder the overall supervision of the Global SLSC Coordinator and the direct supervision of the SLSC IM Officer, the Intern will provide IM support to the SLSC Cluster by assisting with the development of data collection tools/processes, data management, analysis, and information products essential for coordinated responses in countries where the cluster is present.ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities and Accountabilities1. Support the roll‑out and maintenance of digital platforms for data collection, site monitoring, and reporting, including solutions built with Microsoft Power Apps, SharePoint, and dashboarding in Power BI where relevant. 2. Support the adaptation of software tools and scripts using a mix of conventional programming techniques and Microsoft services such as Power Automate for workflow automation or integration between data systems—based on Cluster operational needs. 3. Support the implementation of machine learning or AI methods to enhance data analysis—leveraging appropriate technologies such as Azure AI, AI Builder, or other tools that support forecasting, automated extraction, and pattern detection. 4. Compile, aggregate, and validate data from multiple sources (including SharePoint lists, Excel/OneDrive files, partner submissions, and external databases) to produce standardized information products such as maps, dashboards, reports, and factsheets. 5. Provide technical support and capacity building to Cluster partners on information management tools, GIS platforms, and where applicable, the use of Microsoft 365 solutions (e.g., Power Apps, Power Automate, SharePoint, Teams-integrated tools). 6. Ensure the application of organizational data standards and protection protocols, overseeing the quality, security, and compatibility of operational datasets. 7. Support the disaggregation of data (gender, age, vulnerability, etc.) and ensure information outputs are designed using accessible formats, including the appropriate configuration of digital forms and dashboards built on Microsoft technologies. 8. Participate in Cluster initiatives, including trainings, working groups, and technical fora, contributing expertise on information management and on digital tools based on Microsoft 365 when relevant. 9. Contribute to the development of situational modelling or analytical tools, using a combination of established data analysis methods and Microsoft-based analytical environments such as Power BI or Azure services when appropriate. 10. Assist in the preparation of brief summary reports documenting lessons learned, system performance, and recommendations using collaborative tools such as SharePoint or Teams for repository and dissemination. 11. Applied GIS and spatial analysis experience* Ability to create operational maps, conduct spatial analysis, and support site‑planning workflows.4. Data analysis and information product development* Skills in cleaning, validating, structuring and analysing humanitarian data. * Experience producing dashboards, factsheets, maps, and reports used by clusters and field teams.5. Exposure to AI/automation in humanitarian work* Opportunity to pilot or test AI/ML tools (e.g., Azure AI, AI Builder) for forecasting, extraction, and decision support.6. Understanding of humanitarian standards and coordination principles* Familiarity with cluster roles, responsibilities, and inter‑agency response mechanisms. * Insight into people‑centred, place‑based approaches promoted by the new SLSC Cluster.7. Capacity‑building and communication skills* Experience supporting country teams and partners, documenting processes, and presenting information clearly.8. Professional growth and mentorship* Close collaboration with IM specialists, the Global SLSC team, and inter‑agency partners. * Enhanced ability to work in fast-moving, multicultural environments.QualificationsRequired Qualifications and ExperienceEducation* Master’s degree or University degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Geographic Information System, Data Science, or a related field from an accredited academic institution.Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.Experience* Demonstrated experience managing and transforming datasets, including data cleaning, pre‑processing, verification, and structured data management; * Experience designing or supporting field‑level data collection and analysis workflows in humanitarian or operational environments; * Proficiency with Microsoft 365 advanced capabilities, including building automated workflows in Power Automate, designing data‑entry or monitoring applications in Power Apps, and optimizing data pipelines in SharePoint and OneDrive; * Ability to enhance IM processes through workflow automation, data validation frameworks, permissions management, and environment optimization within the 365 suite; * Familiarity with data visualization and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI) and dashboard development; and, * Exposure to AI or ML tools (Azure AI, AI Builder) is an advantage.Skills* Advanced Microsoft 365 Skills: Strong command of Excel (Power Query/Power Pivot) and hands‑on experience with Power Automate, Power Apps, SharePoint, and Teams to support workflow automation and optimized IM processes; * Database & Data Management: Working knowledge of data management tools, including MySQL or similar relational databases; ability to manage structured/unstructured data, metadata, and data documentation; and, * Data Visualization & GIS: Familiarity with Power BI for dashboard development and basic GIS/spatial analysis (e.g., ArcGIS for Power BI, GIS‑enabled visualizations).LanguagesAll staff members in all categories are required to be fluent in one of the IOM’s official languages (English, French, and Spanish).For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written).Working knowledge of another official UN languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an advantage.Proficiency in language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/ or oral assessments.HOW TO APPLYAny offer made to the candidate in relation to this vacancy notice is subject to funding confirmation.Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment, verification of residency, visa, and authorizations by the concerned Government, where applicable.Depending on experience and location, interns are granted a small monthly stipend to help offset costs.
